I WILL MISS YOU

This three years for me have been very important. The most important have been this last year.
This year we have been together so we were very union.
With Paqui we have learnt many things and we have done very interesting projects about agriculture and the secodary sector. With this project we have learnt a lot about our town.
The idea about the blog I think it was great because we have improved our English and people that not take part of the group can see what we do in Social Sciences.
Paqui thank you because you always are there to help us and give advice and Kelly thank you to taught us a lot of English and always listen us.
I'll never forgot this year and althought our live take differents roads we are always be together.
You are the best.
And Paqui next year I'm going to study more and my behavior are going to be better I promise you
Enjoy the summer.
Kisses

This year in Social Sciences...

This year has been really special for me. In September I wasn't supposed to come back to the Instituto to work in the European Section. When I was told I could come back I was very happy and felt very lucky. It was a gift and a pleasure to have the opportunity to spend another year with all of you and to work in this exceptional program.

This years' Social Science classes were very interesting and fun on many levels.

On the level of the subject and the material, I really enjoyed the units about economy and politics. I studied these subjects in the university and it was an interesting experience to teach this material and share my knowledge with the students. On a personal level, I learned a lot about the history, economics and political systems of my adoptive country, Spain. I am very happy to have learned more about these topics, because it helps me better understand more about how things work, what's happening and about the history of the country where I now live.

With regards to the way we learned and taught this year, it was interesting to do things in a different way. I think the blog is a great idea and that it has a lot of potential. However, the success of the blog depends on the commitment of the people who write it and some people did not take this project as seriously as they should. I hope that next year you will work harder on the blog. I also enjoyed the different projects about the continents, the projects about agriculture and local businesses and of course the "Tanto Monta" song and video.

I want to say a big THANK YOU to Paqui! Over these three years Paqui has taught me so many things about the world, history, teaching and about life. Above all, Paqui has taught me and demonstrated the amazing things that can be achieved through hard work, dedication and love. I will never forget this lesson as long as I live. Thank you for being an amazing teacher, mentor and friend.

I also want to say thank you to the students of 3ºA. These three years have been an amazing experience thanks to you! I am so proud of all your hard work and how you have progressed and grown in English and as people. You are amazing students and I have enjoyed every second with you. I will miss you very much, but I will never forget you or the moments we have shared. I hope that you will continue working hard, improving your English and achieving great things!

I love you all.

Thank you!

Do we repeat it?

Hello classmates/friends! hahaha
Well.. this year has been very important for me, but also one of the hardest years.
I have learnt many things and I have improved in my studies. I think also that I have matured more and it's an important thing for life.

The lessons whit Paqui have been great because she has prepared powerpoint presentations, she has made us to do projects about paintings, industries... or she has prepared challenges, so that we can learn more. She does all these things to teach us and to be prepared for the future. The thing that I've liked more has been the song that Paqui did about the history of Isabel of Castile and Fernando of Aragon, it's a fantastic idea and an easy way to learn the history in this way.

About my classmates... they have been the best because with them I have had a good time everyday and they are a great support, they have always been there when I have needed help and I thank them for all.
I would like to repeat this year (but with an easier level) with all of them and with the teachers because I have seen that I can improve a lot and it makes me feel better.

I won't forget you!

Spend a good holidays friends!

I'LL NEVER FORGET YOU

I’LL NEVER FORGET YOU =)

These three years I learned a lot of things with Paqui and Kelly. These last lessons were fantastic and I have enjoyed them because it's the last year we are going to be in the same class. =(

My experience with Paqui was very exciting because I learned a lot of with her and I think is the best teacher that I have had in these three years. All her classes were very interesting and you learn a lot of things about life.

The things I like were the project about one organization on Glogster. In this project I learned things about my organization and things about other classmates' organizations. And the activity that we are doing with Kelly, the video of “Tanto Monta, Monta Tanto".” I think the next year we can do more songs, because with these songs is easy to learn the important things of the unit.

The things I didn’t like were the day that Paqui was angry with all the class and the day that all the class were late and she sent us to the library. I like all the units but the best unit for me was the unit about the paintings.

I think next year we can continue with the blog of Social Science and we can continue to be all the class in the same class. =)

3ºA is the best class I've ever had, because in this class we participate all in this things and we helped each other. I’LL NEVER FORGET YOU =(

In this class we do a lot of parties in Manuel’s house and in the classroom too. I like this class for the next year because I love all my classmates.=)

Please have a good summer and the people who have failed, please, study. I think we could have another dinner with KELLY AND PAQUI. JEJEJEJEJEJEJ

THANK YOU PAQUI AND KELLY FOR YOUR HELP.

An unforgettable year

This year it was the best year for me because it was the first year that all of us have been in the same class and this was fantastic because we were more united. The best unit for me was unit 5, called the "political organization of societies" because we have learned about the different forms to rule a country, the things that a country has to have and also what the political organization of Spain is like. And I dislike the unit about the Renaissance, Humanism, Reformation and Counter-Reformation.

I think that the blog was a good idea to remember the things we have learned in the lessons and it's also useful to study every day but in mi opinion the problem of the blog was that we have not participated so much on it.

I'll never forget this special year for all of us.
3ºA forever

My experience!

In this year we have learnt many things. We have improved our English. With Paqui we have passed many moments good and bad. We are going to remember this year like a special year.
Thank you Paqui to touched us many things.!
Enjoy the summer!
Kisses!

Some of your art projects

Here you have some of the art projects the students prepared about Renaissance paintings. This time we´ll start on the other way around. The projects will appear in alphabetical order, but from back to front. Students, if you want your project to appear here, please, send your files by e-mail.

- Alejandro Torrillas´s painting studied Emperor Charles V at Mühlberg, a Titian´s painting:

- Yolanda Rubio worked on The Garden of the Earthly Delights, by Hyeronimus Bosch.

- Mari Luz Ortiz prepared Saint John the Baptist, an enigmatic painting of Leonardo Da Vinci.

- Laura Muñoz worked on The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, painted by El Greco:

- Rebeca García commented on another El Greco painting, The Despoiling.

- Ana de la Fuente prepared Adam and Eve, by Albrecht Dürer.

- Manuel Cruz´s painting was a fresco of Piero della Francesca, Constantine´s Dream

- Ángel Aranda explained the Opening of the Fifth Seal, by El Greco

- And Javier Alberca worked on The Ambassadors, a painting full of secrets, painted by Hans Holbein the Younger.

All of us together, unforgettable

In my opinion, this year has been very special. We have learned a lot of Social Sciences and English. But there is a thing that has changed the way of learn: the blog.

Source: http://expresovoluntas.bligoo.com/content/view/827941/UN-CAMINO-NUEVO.html

With the blog, we have interchange opinions, we have improved our writing skills and it has been a new way of communication and extension of the lessons with more contents. Thanks to our work (more from ones than from others) the blog has grown a lot in these 9 months, reaching nearly 30,000 visits.
Apart from the blog, thanks to the book that Paqui did, we have learned a lot, from economy and organization of societies to the story of the Catholic Monarchs and the Empire of Charles V. For me, the most interesting unit was the one that talked about economy, because it shows how the world works. Last units we have seen about history are also very interesting because it provides us culture about the past of our country.
This year we have also learned some alternatives to do projects, like projects from interviews (like the ones we did with the units of the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors) and new tools like Glogster, on which we can do an interactive poster (like the one we did with the organizations of the world).
Next year I would like to continue with this blog and continue learning Social Sciences and English in the same way as this year!
See you soon!! :D

An Unforgettable Year

This has been the most special year of the three years we have been together in the European Sections. We haven't only learned about the organizations of the societies; primary, secondary and tertiary sector; political organization of societies; and what happened in the Iberian peninsula since the Catholic Monarchs until the reign of Felipe II, but we have also learned to work in groups, to help the one another... I really like the History units and I dislike the exams but What can we do? jajaja. I think the blog is nice to study everyday what Paqui has taught us. But the best thing of this year has been all the time we have stayed together: trips, projects, the newspaper,... all this has united us much more,I wouldn't change this experience for anything, I hope next year we will stay together in some classes and we might meet to remember the good times.
Bye see you on Friday, but I don't know at what time, except Laura Meco who is on holidays in San Juan de Alicante and I expect she is enjoying it. Let's do a good work to show Cristina, Soraya, Kelly, Paqui, Mª José, Mª Carmen, Cristina and Andres that their work has served us to learned a lot of English and to have a good time.

This is the end of the course but not the end of our friendship. Thanks a lot for this unforgettable year. Bye and see you on Friday :D.

My experiences...

For me this year has been a different way of learning Social Sciences and I liked the unit of the Catholic Monarchs, because i'ts an easy unit to learn and I disliked the unit of policy because I bored a lot with this theme...

I'll never forget this experience of been all the bilingüal programme together because next year in 4 of ESO we won't be join because each one choose different subjects...

I would like to be with you (Paqui) next year again.

You drew a different hue in the classes...

Some advice for your last post

Hello students,

Here you have some advice to write your last post:

- Take your time to review all you have learned this year. Check your posts and your classmates´ posts to have a wider viewpoint of the whole year.

- Write about the topics, projects and activities you´ve liked most, the things you didn´t like and your suggestions to improve and learn more next year.

- Give your opinion about this blog project.

And last, but not least, remember that we have an appointment next Friday. See you then.

20th of June 2011

Today in Social Sciences we have prepared a farewell party to Kelly because it was the last day that she has been with us. Ángel has prepared a presentation, in which some classmates have talked about the things that we have learned during this three year that we have been with Kelly, he also has included some photos about these years. After that, Silvia has given Kelly a present that all the classmates have bought for her. When Kelly has opened the present and she has discovered that it was a very beautiful wristband. Then Silvia has put the wristband to Kelly. Then we have prepared some things to eat and drink that we have prepared at the breaktime. During this hour we have taken some photos, and at the end of the class Kelly has wanted to have a photo with the boys and another one with the girls.
Finally I want to say that during these three years we have learned many things with Kelly.
We will miss you Kelly.

Friday, 17th of June

Today in Social Science, two people were doing the make up exam and the rest we have finished the unit 8. We have talked about economy in the 16th century, in this century was a price revolution, the prices incresed considerably, because there was not enough production to satisfy the demand.

Then we have continued explaining the part about Conquest, Administration and Colonization of the Indies, later the Administration, then the Coloization and Exploatation and finally the Colonial Society. While Paqui was explaining the different parts of the unit we were seeing a power point about this unit.

Then when we have finished the unit we have cheked the exercises 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13.

Later we have started doing a video about " Tanto nonta, monta tanto" and people where singing all the time the karaoke. It was great!

Presentation about the Indies

Here you have the presentation about the conquest, administration and exploitation of the Indies. There is some  additional information you should read.

Challenge number 23

This one will be the last challenge of this year. If you take part in it, you will discover some curious stories about the conquest and colonization of the Indies. Here you have the questions:

QUESTION 1
After his adventure in the Indies, one of the most famous conquistadors returned to Castile and fruitlessly tried to be received by the Emperor Charles V. One day the conquistador approached to the Emperor´s carriage and mounted on the footstep. Surprised, the Emperor asked who he was. And he replied: "I´m the one who has given you more provinces than your ancestors left you cities". Who was this conquistador?

QUESTION 2
There is another legend about a Castilian conquistador who "discovered" an important territory in the present USA. He was supposed to be looking for the Fountain of Youth. Who was this conquistador? What territory did he discover? Why did the conquistador give this name to this land?

QUESTION 3
Who gave name to the Amazon river? Why was it called "Amazon"?

QUESTION 4
What was the "asiento"? What was its relationship to the exploitation of the Indies?

Journal 15-6-11

Sorry by the delate, I couldn't write the journal before.

Today in Social Sciences, first we have gone to the new building, because in our class there is a very high temperature. Then we have read the unit eigth, it is about the 16th century in the Iberian Peninsula.
Then Paqui has showed a power point about the hispanic empire, and we have tolked about thet invencible armada, was an armie invencible by the others armies, but it didn't supported and was sunk by a storm.
Paqui has also givenn the make-up exams to the people who failed any therm. I haved to do the make-up exam of the unit five, political organizations of societies, and I have pass this exam with a 6,7. I am very happy about this.
At the end of the class Paqui has given us the exercises 8 to 13 of the new unit for homework.

13-06-2011

Today it has been Monday 13 of June, the date of the make up exam.

After Paqui has given the exams she has collected the projects about the Renaissance paintings that we have done. I had to do the project about the painting Charles V in the battle of Mühlberg, which represents Charles V in the battle of Mühlberg against the Schmalkaldic league.

-The first student to present her project has been Yolanda Rubio. She has talked about "The Garden Of Early Delights", painted by Hyeronimus Basch between 1503 and 1504, and it is exposed in the Prado museum. It was commissioned by Henry the III, but after it was bought by Philip II and exhibited in el Escorial.

The painting it's a triptych and it was divided into three parts: Heaven, Earth and Hell. When it is closed you see God creating the world. There's a hole in the Heaven's part that represents the devil's entrance from hell. There are some animals that represents different things like the rabbits which symbolize female sex.

The middle part is also divided into three parts: The fountain of the four rivers in the upper part, the animals around some women bathing in a hole and in the part below there many people having sexual relations.
In the right hell is represented where people are punished by their sins. The deadly sins are also represented, as the man who is eating the punish people and defecating them into a black hole where other people is throwing gold... this represents avarice.

-The second one who has present her project has been Silvia. She has spoken about the "Holy Trinity". Historians think that it was painted between 1535 and 1538 more or less, but it's sure that it was painted by Masaccio and it's exposed in Florence. The characters of the paintings are Christ, Marie and John; and behind them is God. The painting represents Christ's death.
It show use of the perspective in the Renaissance, follows the trompe- l'oeil technique and the painter used dark colours. Behind the scene is painted the sarcophagus of Christ and it was found in an altar of a church.

-The third person to present her project has been Laura Meco. She has explained the "Burial of Count Orgaz". It was painted by El Greco in 1587 and it was commissioned by Andres Núñez de Madrid.

The painting is divided into two parts: Below is the Earthly life and in the upper part is the heaven. Below, Saint Sebastian and Saint Agustin are depositing the count into the tomb. One curiosity is that El Greco and his son are represented in the burial. The upper part represents heaven and eternal life.

In the heaven are Jesus Christ, Pedro open the doors of heaven and Marie receiving the count's soul. He used warm and bright colours to paint the heaven and cold and dark colours to paint the burial. He made the figures in movement trying to make beauty.

-And the last one to present his project has been Javi. He has commented on the painting called: "The ambassadors", painted by Hans Holbein the "young" in 1533 and it was commissioned by Jean de Dinteville. It's exposed in the National Gallery in London.

The two characters are looking towards the observer. We can see some sundials in which their hours represent the period of changes in England in which Henry the VIII tried to get divorced of Catalina and get married to Anne Boleine. One of the two characters is a Bishop which went there to try to persuade him of not doing it. The broken lute symbolize's the break between the Catholic Church and the Anglican Church. There's also a crucifix on the wall. There's a skull next to the lute which means that the earthly powers are useless in heaven, and it expresses the vanity of the people. The man on the left holds a scroll in his right hand. Nothing in this work of art was painted by chance, all these objects have an objective.

After finishing with the project my classmates who were doing the make up exam has given it to Paqui and then the bell has rung.

3rd of June of 2011

When we arrive to the class the computer was starting on and until it works ok we have been reviewing about the last class, it was about Renaissance art.

Then we have continued explaining the painting in Renaissance and about the perspective, because it was starting to use in these period.

After we have read the information in the book about the Renaissance art in the Spanish kingdoms.

At the end of the class she has given each student a card with a Renaissance painting of the Renaissance period. They are to do a project in which each one of us have a painting, and we have to look for information about it and write a text about the painting we have.
The painting I have to do for these project is "School of Athens Rafael". I think it is an interesting painting and I am happy about it.

I'm very sorry by the delay, but I couldn't write it before because my mother forgot her computer on the school where she works, and when I went to the library they say to me: "If you are less than 16 years old you can't use the computers." And now I'm in Ana Lucas' house. Becouse I tell she my problem and she said that I can go her house to write the journal. I'm very sorry really!

Some useful links for your art presentations

Here you have some useful advice and a collection of links you can use to prepare your art presentations. Remember that your analysis has to include this information:

- Title of the painting.
- Author
- Chronology
- Information about the person or institution who commissioned the painting.
- Material used to paint it (tempera, oil, watercolour...)
- Description of the painting: what is represented, colours, shapes, use of light...
- Meaning of the painting: symbols used, purpose of the artist...
- Why the painting can be considered a Renaissance work of art
- More interesting information: importance of the painting in art history, influence in other artists...

And these are some useful links you can use for your previous research:

MUSEO DEL PRADO
Click on "Galería on line" and "A fondo" and you will find information about paintings such as Adam and Eve (Albrecht Dürer), The Garden of the Earthly Delights (Hyeronimus Bosch), Emperor Charles V at Mühlberg and Danae and the shower of gold (Titian).

MUSÉE DU LOUVRE
Here you will find information about some Leonardo Da Vinci´s paintings: Saint John the Baptist, The Gioconda (Mona Lisa) and The Virgin of the Rocks. Write the name of your paintings on the search box to have access to the information you need:

RAFAEL SANZIO
Here you have some links to prepare the presentations on Rafael´s paintings:

Frescoes on the Vatican Rooms, such as The Parnassus and The School of Athens:

The marriage of the Virgin:

MASACCIO

Useful to comment on paintings such as Trinity, Tribute money and The expulsion from the Garden of Eden

EL GRECO
On this link you can have access to all the paintings of Domenico Teotokopoulos, El Greco:

THE SISTINE CHAPEL FRESCOES
Here you have a website to get information about The creation of Adam and The Last Judgement

LEONARDO DA VINCI
Here you have a link to all Leonardo Da Vinci´s paintings:

BOTTICELLI

GIORGIONE

HANS HOLBEIN

Remember that you have to understand the information you´re going to present to the others. It would be better that you look for the information in Spanish first, prepare a scheme and organize what you´re going to explain. When you have all this, you can start preparing your composition in English. You can use links in English for the specific vocabulary, but don´t fall into them temptation of copying and pasting things you don´t understand. Your explanation doesn´t have to be long. The purposes of this project are that you learn about Renaissance style, the complexity of some works of art and that you explain your discoveries to other people. Use simple and understandable sentences and write your own explanation. The information you get is only the first part of the project. With it, you will have to elaborate your own analysis.

Remember that the deadline for this project is on the 13th June. If you have any questions or doubts, please contact by e-mail.
