Today in the class of social sciences...

At first the teacher has given back the notebooks that we have gave her, the other day... Some students like Gustavo have to give the notebooks with all the contents ( he failed).

Then the teacher has explained some contents about Nazi Germany like:

  • - 90 Jews killed.
  • -More than 30,000 Jews were arrested and sent to camps - Massive emigration of Jews to other countries.

  • •MUNICH AGREEMENT (September 1938). Hitler claimed Sudentenland, a Czechoslovakian territory inhabited by 3 million German speakers. The main European powers met at Munich and signed an agreement Sudentenland to Germany. They didn´t want to provoke a war (appeasement policy, led by Neville Chamberlain, the UK prime minister) and saw Hitler as an 30th September 1938 important ally to stop Stalin.Hitler promised to stop his territorial demands, but he didn´t keep his promise.

  • • INVASION OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA (March 1939). The Nazis occupied Bohemia and Moravia and established a protectorate in Slovakia

  • • NAZI- SOVIET PACT (August 1939) Secret agreement signed between Germany and the USSR. Hitler wanted to be sure of the USSR neutrality in the invasion of Poland and Stalin wanted to gain time in order to be ready for a future war against the Nazis.

  • •OUTBREAK OF WORLD WAR 2 (SEPTEMBER 1939) 1st September : Invasion of Poland using Thunder War (Blitzkrieg): combined attack of artillery and aircraft. 3rd September: France and the United Kingdom declared war on Germany. 17th September: The Soviet Union occupied the Eastern part of Poland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. And finally I just wanted to say that it has been a very good year, we have learned a lot and we've been very well. Thanks to the teacher Paqui for standing us!

This party has two paramilitary groups:

SA: ,Assault Sections, also known as Brownshirts

We have also spoken about the BEER HALL PUTSCH In November 1923 the Nazis tried to seize power with a coup d´État (putsch) inMunich. The Nazis surrounded the Bürgerbraukeller, a beer hall where Bavariapolitical authorities were celebrating a meeting. The putsch failed because thearmy didn´t join the Nazis. 14 Nazis died and their main leaders were arrested.
Hitler was also arrested and condemned to 5 years of jail but he didn't complete his stay.

They dind't won the elections of 1933 but the conservative forces convince Hidemburg to appoint Hitler Prime minister.
The Nazis committed arson against theReichstag (Parliament) and accused thecommunists. The government issued an emergency decree restricting liberties. Many opposition leaders were arrestedand sent to detention camps.
When Hitler won the March elections (He convinced Hiddemburg to make new elections)he demanded full powers in the Reichstag. The Gestapo (Secret Police) was created and in July the NSDAP became the only legal party. They burned books of forbidden autors and persecution against the Jews started immediately .

Thursday 28th May 2015

Hi!

Today in the class of Social Sciences Rodrigo and Lucía have asked Paqui if she had corrected the make up exam of the art project, because they had failed it.
Paqui didn't have them but she was going to correct them in the class.

After that, Paqui has given us a short scheme to complete it. It was based on "the Reactions to the Great Depression". Due to this depression, there were two different policies during the two different administrations: Hoover and Roosevelt administrations.
  • Hoover administration (1929-1933).
-At the beginning Hoover didn't do anything because the liberal economic theory said that the government didn't have to intervene in economy.
- Later they tried to keep salaries and prices low (deflationist policy) and they increased tariffs to protect their industry (protectionist policy).
- Results: crisis became worse, because consumption couldn't recover, there were 13 million unemployed (25% of the working population) in 1932 in the USA and international trade contracted.
  • Roosevelt administration (1933-1945)
-New Deal program, based on Keynes ideas: intervention of the State in economy, investment of money to create jobs, recover prices and stimulate consumption.
- Main decisions of the Three R Program (Reform, Recovery and Relief)
-relief to farmers and workers: farmers were paid to destroy stocks, distribution of food to the needy families, construction of public works (dams, roads).

Afterwards, Paqui has said that tomorrow we will start with Fascist Italy, so we have to read out this page on the book.
Then we have copied some words on the glossary like:
-working population: población activa
-to deepen: profundizar
-New Deal: nuevo reparto
-Relief: alivio, consuelo, ayuda
-To relief: aliviar, consolar

Friday, 22nd of May 2015

Hello everybody!

Today in class of social sciences we have started the class speaking about the flag that the town hall has placed in the round about at the entrance of the town, that is so big, Lucía said that maybe is as tall as the high school. Paqui has told us that these flags are very expensive and people paid for them like two thousand euros, I think that it´s too much for a flag and maybe that  money will be better spent in other things.

Then we have copied the beginning of the new unit that is: The Interwar period (1919-1939).
And it has this points:
1. The USA: from the Roaring Twenties to the Great Depression.
2. Fascist Italy.
3. Nazi Germany.

And we have started the first point: The USA: from the Roaring Twenties to the Great Depression.
After the WW1 the USA became an industrial power. The USA became also a dream for the thousand immigrants of all over the world. The industrial production grew up and also consumption stimulated by: payment in instalments and banking loans.
But not all the prosperity was good a lot of people were pour like the famous character invented by Charles Chaplin, Charlot.
Then the government prohibited consuming, producing and selling alcohol. So the mafia found a business in these drinks. (In that moment we have started to speak about Al Capone and the alcohol)

http://www.biography.com/people/al-capone-9237536

Slavery was abolished after the Civil War, but many black people continued to be discriminated and they were hounded in several states by the Ku Klux Klan, a racist organization.

http://www.montevideo.com.uy/auc.aspx?266890

And after this Paqui has given us homework, from the page 72 exercises 1 and 2, and on Tuesday we will correct them.

Then we have spoken about the penis of Rasputin, and the teacher said there were persons who pay to see the Rasputin's penis...

After, the teacher has explained "Stalinism" (1927-1953) all about the period under Stalin's government.

About the economy, Stalin changed the orientation of the economy policy. His priority was to transform the USSR into and industralized power. He imposed:

- Collectivization privization of all private properties

- Centrally planned economy: the State controlled and planned economy through the Gosplan (MInistry of Planning). They elaborated de Five Year Plans.

- Priority to heavy industry to the detriment of light industry.

Results: quick industrialization of the USSR but to the detriment of a permanent  lack of consumers'goods and consolidation of black market.

Former Gosplan ( State Commite for planning, building in Moscou).

Then the teacher has explained the cult of Stalin personality: he was presented as the father and the savior of the USSR in propaganda.

And after this, the repression persecution and repression of the all those suspected of critizing the régime

- Stalinist purges in the 1930 killed around 700.000 people

- Many other were sent to the forced labour camps (Gulag)

And finally, we have seen some manipulated Stalin and Franco's photos.

19th of May 2015 (Tuesday)

Hello Everybody!!

Today in social sciences we have done some things. Firstly, when we've arrived to the class, we asked Paqui for the exams but she has said that she would give us at the end of the lesson. We also have asked her for our projects but her answer was the same.
When we have started the class, we have continued with the unit.
We have copied an scheme of Civil War (1918-1921):

-2 conforted armies: red army and white army
- The Bolsheviks mobilized a lot of soldiers and ordered the total requisition of food (war communism). Many people hid products and black market developed.
-Although the white army got the support of the western powers, the Bolsheviks finally won the war , but devastation was total in the country and 5 million people had died. The tsar and his family were also executed.

We have also copied the Lennis succession:

-Lenin died in 1924 and there were two candidates with opposed views of the USSR future.
- CANDIDATES: Trotsky wanted to export revolution to other countries (proletarian internationalism). Stalin wanted to consolidate revolution in the USSR (socialism in our country).

We have also copied some words in the glossary.

At 9:50, Paqui has given us the exams. I've got a 4.15 points. I've failed but at least I can pass the term if I pass the next exam. She also has given us the projects and I've got a 5, is not very good but is passed.

Here I leave a photograph of USSR map.

Today in Social Sciences we have had the exam of the units 5-7. The exam consisted of 4 questions:

1.- The first question consisted of choosing four of the concepts that Paqui gave to us. This question was worth 2 points.

2.- In the second questions we had to develope the Consequences of Colonialism. This question also was worth 2 ponits.

3.- In the third question we had to choose two of the four themes that Paqui gave to us:

A)  Causes and outbreak of World War 1. This was worth 2 points
B) Features of World War 1. This was worth 1.5 points.
C) Conference of Paris and peace treaties. This was worth 2 points.
D) Consequences of World War 1. This was worth 1.5 points.

We had to choose one of the themes which worthed 2 points and another which was worth 1.5 points. The exercise was worth 3,5 points.

4.- In the 4th and the last quesiton, Paqui has given us 11 little texts to complete. This question was worth 2.5 points.

Tuesday, 12th of May 2015

Hi I'm Gustavo!

Today we have started the class asking Paqui if she can remove some theory of the exam or if she can say to us the questions of the exam, but Paqui has said to us no.

Then we have asked her about the projects of the Diary Travel journal, and she has say to us that she has checked the half of the projects.

After this, Paqui has checked the consequences of the scheme of the 1917 revolution with some slides on the digital blackboard. The correction is: For the 1st time in history a workers's party took power and became an example for other parties around the world. Their first decisions were taking Russia out of the war, distributing land among peasants and puting industry under workers control and a government formed by the Soviets.

Later we have copied a little bit of theory about the distatorship of the proletariats. Once the Bolcheviks took power, they dissolved the Constituent Assembly, established the dictatorship of the proletariats and started persecuting those who opposed them with the Cheka (secret police).
The Tsarist prepared an army against them (White army) and a Civil War (1918-1921) started.

White army

The homework for next Tuesday is to do a scheme about the Civil War, creation of the USSR and the NEP.

Today we have only copied one word in the glossary, which is very strange. This word is Ice ax (piolet).

08 May 2015 (friday)

Hello everybody! It’s Amalia.
I’m going to tell you what I have done today in social sciences lesson.
At first some students have asked to Paqui if we could watch a video that they have made in French lesson and she accepted.

Then we have corrected some activities sent for today, they where about tsarist Russia and the  1905 revolution:

The main features of Tsarist Russia were  the following:

-At the beginning it was an autocracy
-Tsar Nicholas II concentrated a lot of power
-Political parties were forbidden and peasants were most of the population
-only in some cities were some industries and workers
-Some parties appeared: constitutional democrat party (liberal ideology)Russian social democratic party (Marxist party divided into Mensheviks and Bolsheviks)socialist revolutionary party(defended the rights of peasants)

The first revolution was in 1905 after Russia’s defeat in the Russian-Japanese war and there were strikes and protests

There was a demonstration of workers asking for better conditions which was brutally repressed by the army. The revolt extended to other parts of the country and soviets appeared (council of workers, peasants and soldiers that appeared to organize the revolts they wanted the end of the war and autocracy)

The Tsar promised to make some reforms but he didn’t keep the promises
WW1 was one of the causes of a new revolution in 1917: the constant defeats of the Russian army .This mean a mobilization of peasants because they wanted low prices, more lands and also more food.

We have to make the scheme about 1917 revolution at home and we have to include the causes, the stages that were: February, April, July and August,  and October .And also the consequences of that revolution

Then we have copied a small scheme about the RSDLP and its division into Mensheviks (moderate Marxists, social democrats, they wanted to participate in the elections and institutions. They were the majority until October 1917) and into Bolsheviks(radical Marxists , revolutionary, they wanted to take the state and to impose the dictatorship of the proletariat. They were minority until October 1917)

At the end of the lesson Paqui has told us that if we wanted to see an exposition about mauthausen, she will be there .I  have seen the exposition and I like it.

5th of May (Tuesday)

Hello everybody!!

I'm Inés and I'm going to write the journal of today.

Today in Social Sciences....

We have corrected the scheme about the Conference of Paris.

Paqui has expalined all the corrections.

Paqui has said to us that Germany had to pay 20,000 million dollars for the destruction they caused during the WW1, and they finished to pay in December 2010. She has also told us that in 1921 France invaded Germany because Germany stopped paying the reparations.

When we were correcting the scheme, Paqui has said that Amalia is Dracula! Because she's from Transylvania.

When we were correcting the Disintegration of the Ottoman Empire, The teacher has explained that the division of the Ottoman Empire was wrong and for that nowadays there are a lo of conflicts in this part of the world, it was more than wrong, she has said that it was the origin of several conflits, because they didn't respect the right to self-determination, as they had done in Europe.

When we have finished the correction of the homework, Paqui has started to explain the Consequences of the war. While she was explaining this, there was a content inside this part called Spanish flu, so se has had to shelain it to the class.

Spanish flu: The soldiers of EEUU came to Europe when they had a common flu, but it's called Spanish flu because the Spanish's press wasn’t censored during the war, so they could inform that there was an epidemic in Europe for that it's called in this way.

After that, Jose Mari has asked about the projects we had done about the art during the 18th and 19th centuries, but Paqui hasn't finished to correct all the projects.

Today is the anniversary of the last liberation of people in a concentration camp concretely in Mauthausen, this concentration camp is so important for Spain because there were Spanish people there and there also were 3 people of my town, Campo de Criptana.

The next day we're going to start the Russian Revolutions.

Bye bye!!

Thursday, April 30, 2015

30th of April (Thursday)

Hello to everyone!!

Today in Social Sciences....

José Mari has told to us that today is the day when Hittler and his wife committed suicide. So, Paqui has explained why they committed suicide. She has also told us that Hittler's craneum is in a warehouse.

After that, Jose Mari has wanted to sing the "Mayos" a Spanish typical song to Paqui.

Paqui has recommended to see a film called Der Untergang, it's a film about Hittler and the Second War World.

Later, Paqui has asked to us: Why did Germans finally surrender? But we didn't know it, so, Paqui has expalined that:
  • Their enemies had more power than them.
  • Their allies surrendered.
  • Their fear for a Revolution.
For all this problems they surrendered and they signed the armistice in the Campiègne Forest, a train wagon, at Rethondes, on 5h 11th of November; but the official ending was at 11h on 11th of November.

With this information, Paqui has remembered that in 1940, Hittler invaded France and he looked for the wagon for a revenge of Germany to France. So Campiègne Forest was used for two different armistices.

Also, Paqui has explained why the republic was proclaimed on Germany on the 9th of November: the government was afraid of a Communist revolution, similar to the one happened in Russia and that’s why they decided to surrender. The Kaiser fled to Holland and the Republic was proclaimed. The army said that the politicians had given a stab in the back to them so they did the same and a communist revolution started.

Paqui has told us the the end and punishment of the WW1 were the causes of the WW2.

At the same time.... a chair has fallen down. All the memories of the falls of the members of the class have appeared in a second.

After this we have come back to the WW1, in the Conference of Paris the losers were not allowed to attend to this conference.

This is all we have done in the lesson of Social Sciences.

And for homework we have to do a scheme about the Conference of Paris and the consequences of the WW1.

But before the class has finished, we have set the date of the exam.... on 14th of May. The exam include a lot of contents : Age of Empires, Goya and the WW1.

Happy long weekend!!!

Tuesday, 28th of April, 2015

Hello everybody!

Today in the class of social sciences teacher Paqui has explained us about the projects that we have to do for last week and then we have corrected the scheme for today which is about the different stages of the first world war. It has four stages:

-1st stage: War of movement: The armies moved towards the enemy. In the western front, the German armies attacked France through Belgium And Luxembourg and arrived 40 km close to Paris. But the French and the British armies could stop the Germans at the BAttle of Marne.

-2nd stage War of attrition: In the western front the armies dug trenches from the North Sea to Switzerland and the front changed little until 1918. A few meters caused a lot of deaths and war became a torture for the soldiers.
New countries joined: Italy joined France and Great Britain. Bulgaria and the ottoman empire joined Austria-Hungary and Germany ( the central powers) A new front opened in the Balkans. 21th of April of 2015

Hello everybody!
Today in Social sciences we have learned about a lot of things.
At the beginning of the class, we have reviewed the travel journal and we have asked our questions to Paqui. Camila have showed me her notebook and I think is so cool. Afterwards we have started with the theorical part of the lesson. We are studying the World War I. Paqui has copied a text about the Schlieffen plan(1905). I knew before what is because i saw a rap on the blog that talk about that. This plan was very optimistic, all plans in general in the World War I, and this is terrible because it caused a big problem.
