Journal.Tuesday, 1st of October

Hi everybody!

Today in Social Sciences we have learnt some new things. First we have corrected the definition of Triangular Trade that Paqui  gave us for homework.
After that Paqui has explained us how the Triangular Trade worked and we have seen a video related to this:

The triangular trade was the main trade route of the Atlantic Ocean because it was the responsible for connecting the three continents (America, Africa and Europe) exchanging  differents products.
Between Europe and Africa they exchanged manufactured goods, like textile.
Between Africa and America they exchanged slaves , who came from Africa and they passed throught the Middle passage.
And finally between America and Europe they traded with raw materials.
 http://www.answers.com/topic/triangular-trade

Then Paqui has started the 2nd point of the unit about politics:

-First Paqui has started with The Thirty Years War (1618-1648):
There was a confrontation between the Protestant kingdoms of  Northem Europe and the Catholic kingdoms of  southern Europe. France helped the catholics fighting with them because they were enemies of the Hispanic Monarchy.

The Surrender of Breda was a painting made by Velazquez, which describes a battle of this war.

Some years after the Peace of Westphalia was signed (1648), which was a treaty that meant several changes:
-End with the religious wars.
-The independence of Low Countries.
-France became Hegemonic because the Hispanic Hegemonic ended.
-Consolidation of the state nations and absolute monarchy.

-Then Paqui has told us somethings about Authoritarian Monarchy and Absolute Monarchy.
Kings tried to reinforce their autority and they tried to have unlimied power.
Many years later kings were considered to be untouchable and some theorists said that their power came from God, so no one could be against their opinions. It happened because people were illiterate. Kings thought that they had all the power but in fact they couldn't control all in a kingdom, so they were helped by councils, parliaments...
The most clear example is Louis XIV who wanted to control the nobles.
He made some strategies to convince the nobles, like organizing parties from them. All that took place in the Palace of Versailles.

Also during the class we have added some new words on the glossary, such as:

Renewal - renovación
Population loss - pérdida de población
To call the Parlament - convocar al Parlamento

Hello Carlos!
Your journal is complete, I can't add any content because I haven't went to class today, I only can correct some mistakes. For example:
-In the four line you have writed "Afterthat" and the correct form is "After that"
-In the four line you have writed also "has expleined" and is "has explained".
-You have writed also in the eighth paragraph "thtat" and the correct form is "that".
And I don't see more mistakes.
Your journal is very good, and these mistakes haven't any importance. I like the Palace of Versailles that were where Louis XIV made some strategies to convince the nobles, like giving them parties, because I visited this palace when I went to Paris, with the classmates of french.
I think that you can add the sources of the photos, and one word of the glossary also:
-To call the parlament: Convocar al parlamento

Good journal carlos! Congratulations and the mistakes are not important. See you tomorrow!

Hi Carlos! I just find a small mistake, because Maribel has corrected the rest.
-that Paqui has "asked" us for homework.
Carlos I'm very impressed with your journal really because it's very complete and long. You also has added information that doesn't appear in the notes( Paqui has said it) and this it's important. This show that you have paying attention in class. Brilliant work! See you

Hello Carlos. You have done a very good journal. It's long, complete and with some really nice images. I don't have any more mistakes that correct in your journal.
Only a mistake in the comment of Maribel. You have written 'writed' instead of 'written'.
See you in class!

Hello Carlos, the journal is very complete, but I say the same as Maribel, you forgot to put 'to call the parlament' that means convocar al Parlamento. That is the mistake, the rest of the journal is very good. Congratulations, see you!

Hello everybody,

Maribel's corrections are OK. These are mine:

- Teachers don't ask for homework. Teachers give something for ghomework. So the correct way of saying this would be... gave us for homework

- The triangular trade was the main trade route.... responsible for

- they exchanged manufactured products... they exchanged slaves

- Middle Passage

- they traded with raw materials, instead of "commercialized". Commercialize means lauch a product to the market, start selling something new.

-2nd

- There was a confrontation between the Protestant kingdoms of (the) Northern Europe and the Catholic(s) kingdoms of (the) Southern Europe. Erase the parts in brackets. The names of religions and their believers are in capital letters in English.

- Catholics. Catholic (singular) is and adjective and Catholics (plural) is a noun

- ...they were enemies of the Hispanic Monarchy

- The Surrender of Breda in Italic font (cursiva). All the names of works of art have to be written this way.

- ...the Peace of Westphalia was signed

- a treaty that meant/ implied. "Involve" means "estar implicado", but not "implicar" as a synomym of "tener como consecuencia" or "significar". This verb is "imply!

- ...the Hispanic hegemony ended

- Kings tried to reinforce(d)... unlimied power

- ... were considered to be untouchable and some theorists said that their power came from God, so no one could be against their op(n)inions

- because people were illiterate(d).

- Kings thought that they had all the power... This is not completely correct: they knew that their power wasn't absolute. They wanted to control everything, but they were aware of the fact that this was impossible.

- parliaments...

- like organizing parties for them. All that took placein the Palace of Versailles.

- renewal

As your classmates have said, you have to include the sources of the pictures you used.

And these are the mistakes on your comments:

- MARIBEL: because I haven't been in class/ I haven't gone to class... You have wtitten. And French in capital letters.

See you tomorrow!
