Monica´s Journal

Today in Social Sciences, we have started  the class asking Paqui our doubts about the project. Then Paqui has explained us the way of correcting the projects and she has said that if we have doubts we have to go during the break time not in the class.
Then we have continued with the last point which we studied last day.Fernando has interrupted Paqui, to tell her that he saw her ho channel on youtube. Paqui has said  that she didn´t have anything on it. And she also has said that she only has time to correct some journals. Gemma has asked to Paqui if she could change the date of the project, but Paqui hassaid she couldn´t. After that Elena has asked for the date of the exam, and Paqui has answered her that we have to decide on the day, but outside and we have to tell her on Wednesday.  She has become a little bit angry because we were interrupting her all the time. After  five minutes of discussion about the date of the exam we have continued with Luddism. We have checked what we studied last day. Paqui has asking us questions.
Afterwards we have continued with the next point which refers to the “Political Ideologies”. We have copied this scheme on our notebooks.

Paqui has said that the first ideology which we will study was  SOCIALISM. She has written the definition on the blackboard.

Source: http://openclipart.org/people/worker/towards_socialism.svg

SOCIALISM: Ideology based on the idea of making the means of production collective (property of society).
We can distinguish two branches : UTOPIAN SOCIALISM and SCIENTIFIC SOCIALISM.
Enrique Pérez didn´t understand the definition of socialism very well, so he has asked to Paqui and she explained it to him better.

Paqui has changed Fernando of place, because he was speaking. We have continued studing the propositions. We have to copy this on the notebook:

PROPOSITIONS based on collective property and the idea that human are good by nature and willing to cooperate. All this  propositions failed.
Paqui has asked us if we think that we are good people from nature. She has said that people aren't good from nature. This was one of the reasons utopian socialism didn't function.
We have seen some propositions of some people some of them are philosophers.

·         ROBERT OWEN: He owned a cotton fabric factory, he worried about his workers and created a model community called New Lanark. He tried to extend his project to the USA, but he failed.

·         COUNT OF SAINT SIMON: He considered the kings, nobles and clergy to be useless and parasitical groups. He promoted the abolition of inheritance and he trusted in progress through industrialization.

·         CHARLES  FOURIER:  He created the phalanstéres: communities formed by 1,620 people, where every worker could choose the activity they wanted to do. All the pharantéres failed.

Isabel has said that she couldn´t see, so some people have asked Paqui to make the text bigger with the zoom, but she couldn´t. Fernando couldn´t seeeitherand she has said to him to sit with María. At the end she has been able to make the text bigger with the zoom of the screen .

Paqui has continued explaining us the tree propositions. She has spoken about Warren Buffet, but I couldn´t copy what she said because she was speaking very quickly, so if you want to know something about him, you can search on google.Enrique Manzanares and Roxana have asked some questions about this man.
We have spoken about Paris Hilton and we have said that she is very rich and she doesn’t need to work. Her family is also very rich.

Here you have a link with information about Warren Buffett :

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Buffett

Paqui has given some examples to explain the theory of Chares Fourier better .

For homework we have to read the information for the Anarchism.

Here you have two links to last year posts about what we have studied today.

-She become: She has become
-The last day: Last day
-Which refers whith: Which refers to
-Underestan: Understand
-She explained he: She explained him
Enrique is Manzanares not Manzaneque!

Hi Monica !!

I think you have written a good journal. But I agree with my classmates, you have to use the present perfect tense !!

-two links "OF THE LAST YEAR...."

Good work, anyway...See you !!

Hello Mónica,

I think that Paqui asked us that if we think that we are good people from nature in stead of we come from nature. She said that people aren't good from nature. This was one of the reasons utopian socialism didn't function.

Don't put Google Images as a source, you have to write the source of the website.

Explain at least the meaning of the second photo about socialism.

See you tomorrow!

Hi Monica, I have read your journal and I like it, but I have found some mistakes as:
-Social Science-s
-Also I think that you have to put the source of the website not "Google images".
And I don´t like the 3rd image , I don´t agree with that.
Only this. Bye!

Hello everybody,

I agree with Salva and Fernando. I think the pictures of this post haven´t been well chosen. I don´t think pictures 2, 3 and 7 are suitable for yesterday´s lesson:

- Picture number 2 is not neutral, but biased (partidista). It´s not explaining ideologies in a neutral way, because it belongs to a very conservative organization in the USA. I suppose they belong to the Tea Party branch of the Republican Party and this chart you´ve included is totally biased to the defense of capitalism and against socialism and communism.

- Picture number 3 belongs to an extremist website and it´s also biased. This is not historical at all, but manipulation.

- Picture 7: I only named her as a person who has inherited a lot of money and doesn´t do much. But I spent more than 5 minutes talking about Warren Buffet and his idea about inheritance, which is very similar to the one defended by Saint Simon. I think Paris Hilton doesn´t deserve to be on this post.

You should be more careful with the choice of images. They have to be historically accurate and the ones you´ve chosen are not. Change them, please.

And, as Salva has told you, you have to include the link to the website where you have found the pictures. All the pictures are on Google, but their origin is different.

Tomorrow, the grammar and speling corrections. Good night.

Hello again, Mónica
I appreciate that you changed the pictures. They are much more accurate now.

These are the mistakes nobody has found and some grammar explanations:

- ...we have started the class asking Paqui our doubts about the project. You have to erase the "to", because in English the verb is "ask someone something/ ask something to someone"

-... she has said that if we have doubts we have to go during/ inthe break time, not in the class.

- the last point which we studied last day. We don´t say "see" to the things we do in class. You have to write "study/ learn"

- Fernando has interrupted Paqui, to tell/ say to her that he saw her go channel on Youtube.

- ... has said that she didn´t have anything go on it.

- Gemma has asked Paqui if she could change the date of the project, but Paqui has said go “No”/ she couldn´t.
- After that , Elena has asked for the date of the exam, and Paqui has answered her that we have to decide onthe day, but outside and we have to tell/ say it to her on Wednesday.

- She hasbecome a little bit angry because we wereare interrupting her all the time.

- After five minutes of discussion about the date of the exam we have continued with Luddism.

- We have checked what we studied last day.

- Paqui has asked us questions.

- We have copied this scheme on our notebooks.

- She has written the definition on the blackboard.

- Word order: Enrique Pérez didn´t understand the definition of socialism very well, so he has asked a question to Paqui and she has explained it to him better.

- We have continued studying the propositions. We have copied this on the notebooks.

- She has said that people aren't good from nature. This was one of the reasons utopian socialism didn't work .

I didn´t say that people aren´t good by nature. Some students did (Carlos, Juan, Fernando Marcos…). I only asked you and some students answered. I also asked what makes us human and Carlos said that the ability of reasoning and distinguishing good from evil and people can´t do this when they are born, because when we are born, we are similar to other animals.

- Robert Owen:...he failed

- Saint- Simon: the abolition of inheritance

- Fourier: He created the phalanstères

- Isabel has said that she couldn´t see, so some people have asked Paqui to make the text bigger with the zoom, but she couldn´t. Fernando couldn´t seeeither and she has said to him to sit with María. At the end she has been able to make the text bigger with the zoom of the screen .

- She has spoken about Warren Buffet

- We have spoken about Paris Hilton

- Paqui has given some examples to explain the theory of Chares Fourier better . “Puted or putted” don´t exist. The verb is “put” and all the forms are “put/put/put”, but you can´t use it in the same way as in Spanish. In English we say “give examples”, not “put examples”.

- Willing to: dispuesto a
- Useless: inútil
- Parasitical: parásito .
- utopian socialism: socialismo utópico
- Phalanstère: falansterio

That´s all. T¡You have to review the mistakes before publishing, because may of them are easy to find.

See you!

Hello Mónica !
Good journal but you have two mistakes:
hassaid--> has said. You have to separate it.
little bit angry--> little angry or bit angry. You don't have to put this two words together because both means the same. This are all the mistakes I have found.

Bye byee :)
