22nd of september 2015

Hi! I'm Manal, and today I'm going to explain you what we have learnt in social sciences.
At first, Paqui has showed us a Charles' family image, to understand better  his family, because they married with people of their own family, so they  had problems to have children, and some of the children that they had, were mentally ill. For that, Charles I was proclaimed king of Castile And Aragon. But this is only a summary  of what we did yesterday.
Now I'm going to explain you about  the Philip II's life

He was the king of some countries,  like some part of italy, south of America, most of the coasts of Africa and  the Low Countries .To these countries we can add  Philippines.
As his mother was from Portugaal, and there weren't successors, he became the king of Portugal.

He didn't move much, he stayed during his life in the peninsula. He lived in Castile, in Madrid. he established Madrid as capital city. He ordered build The Monastery of  El Escorial, where he lived. this was  his bedroom.

The most interesting and beautiful  place in El Escorial was the  library. Another interesting place was the cemetery that consists of a crypt, where most of the Spanish monarchs were buried. But Philip V and FernandoVI were buried in other places.

Philip could control all te the countries  from   El Escorial. He was a very hard  worker, so all the people who worked for him had to be hark worders

Philip II's objectives were similar to the  Charles' objectives,  They were:

- Defense of Catholicism, religious intolerance caused many problems and wars
-Preservation the empire, this includes a lot of wars.

Philip II had 4 wives:
-he married to María Manuela (his cousin), and they had a boy, he was mentally ill, so he died, and his wife died.
- then he married to Mary I Tudor (his aunt), they didn't have children because she  died.
-after the death of  Mary I tudor, he married to Elisabeth of  Valois, she was the most  beloved.
- then he married toAna de Austira (his niece) , they had 4 boys and one girl.

Philip II defended the catholicism
They thought that the science  was dangerous , so they prohibited  the importing of books and the students couldn't study abroad.
No one could  work  at Philip II's administration if he or she  didn't have a clean blood.
All the Morish who were living  in Granada were forced by Philip II to leave their traditions  and customs : they couldn't speak Arabic or dress their typical clothes.

So this is what we have study today!!!
New  words:
inbreeding:endogamia
gruesome: truculento
paun :peón
Beloved: amado, querido
Gossip: cotilleo
court: corte
crypt: cripta
auster: austero
blood cleanliness: limpieza de sangre
morrish: morisco
Book contraband: contrabando de libros
fake: falsificar
abortion: aborto
trustworthy: digno de confianza,  fiable
At he end of the class Paqui has given us the homework that we have to do. It consists  of  looking for information about the  the Antonio Pérez's story, who was Philip  II's secretary

Very good Manal..I've read your journal and it's almost ok. I've seen some small mistakes. In 2nd Eso, I didn't like so much Social Sciences, but this year I've seen that is very interesting. The most interesting content that Paqui has explained today was the "Defense of Catholicism". Manal, for you what was the most interesting content? For me, Phillip II's reign is easier to remember than the Charles I's reign. Are you agree with me ?

Good Journal Manal!! I can see some small mistakes, but they're not very important. In my opinion, I find it very interesting, I like to know the history of our country (But I don't like that much to study it). I think that Phillip II defended so much the catholicism, and I think that there are a lot of things he shouldn't have done. But, that's the past, and we have to learn from it, and we don't have to commit the mistakes we commited in the past

Good work, Manal. One thing you could improve is including a picture of Philip II, because most of the lesson was dediicated to him.

I'll have a look on the gramar during the weekend. Remember to check your post and correct it next week. Bye!

Hello again.

These are my corrections. Most of them are spelling mistakes. So next time you have to read again your journal before publishing, in order to avoid these mistakes. The corrections are highlighted in bold and the unnnecesary words or letters are in brackets (you have to erase them):
