Fountain of the Four Rivers (Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi), Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

This sculpture was made by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1651 by order of the pope Inocencio X and it is a fountain in the Piazza Navona in Rome, Italy.

Fountain of the Four Rivers

In this sculpture/fountain, Bernini wanted to represent the four main rivers of the world in that time (the Nile representing Africa, the Danube representing Europe, the Ganges representing Asia, and the Río de la Plata representing America) crowned by giants sculptures of marble which are vegatables and animals which belong to hard species like lions, crocodiles, horses, snakes, dragons… And it has a base of a elliptical pool with a marble mass of a egyptian obelisk.

According to the symbology of Bernini, man’s heads make refence to birth of the differents rivers. As the Río de la Plata wasn't explored yet the men’s head was covered. But there’s another theory that says that Bernini knew that the facade of the Saint Inés church would be restored by Francesco Borromini and as he was an enemy for Bernini he decided to put covering faces for their sculptures that are in front of the church.

Hello,

First of all, you can’t change the font nor its size. I’ve had to change this. You have to respect the style of the blog. These are my corrections and comments.

-... by order of the pope InnocentX and it is a fountain in the Piazza Navona in Rome, Italy.

-...and the River Plate Plata representing America) crowned by giant sculptures of marble which are vegetables and animals which belong to hard species like lions, crocodiles, horses, snakes, dragons… And it has a base of an elliptical pool with a marble mass of an Egyptian obelisk.

- According to Bernini’s symbology, men’s heads make reference to the birth of the different rivers. As the River Plate wasn't explored yet the man’s head was covered.

-...as he was an enemy of Bernini he decided to cover the faces of the sculptures that are in front of the church.

You haven’t written anything about the material he used, the size of the sculpture, the Baroque features of this sculpture. You have to work more and include the sources of the pictures as well.

Your mark is 5. Bye.
