Monday 17 January 2011(written Tuesday 18 January)

Today in social sciences we have started checking the exercise that Paqui gave us on Friday. She also gave us to read pages 36 and 37 about fishing. The differences between the places to fish like inshore fishing and
high-sea fishing. She also has shown us a presentation with the best places to fish. I thought at first that the warm currents were better to the fish than cold currents because of the temperature, but, as Paqui told us in the cold currents less water evaporates and because of this there is less salinity, and that propitiates to the accumulation of

plankton. I knew that in the union of cold and warm is very good for the fish because the temperature is milder and also there is more plankton. The presentation talked about aquaculture and capture of fish and how the fish catches has established and stayed in more or less the same numbers, and how the aquaculture has grown to satisfy the demand
of fish. This is a good way to prevent overfishing.
The last thing I want to say is the division of the seas in the countries. 200 km from the coast to the ocean and the only way to fish in those waters is to be from this country( or from the E.U. in its waters).

Hi Alejandro! Your post is really complete!
But you have forgotten one thing, you can fish in other countries if you sign fishing agreements with other countries. It consits in: some countries' people can fish in other different countries, and the others receive in exchange part of the catches of fish.
I've found some grammar mistakes also:
-In the fourth line you wrote: "paqui give us..." it is past so, Paqui gave us.
-You've also written, "she also said us..." I think it's better to say "she also told us..."
You wrote "the presentation told about" it is talked, no told...
-When you say "the shame numbers" I suppose you mean "the same numbers".
-And the last one, you wrote cost, and it is coast. Be careful!
I like the photos they are really funny!
That's all! See you!

First things first...Alejandro you know that it's not acceptable to do the journal late. You have to be responsible about writing it! Also, you have made grammatical and informational mistakes.

Regarding the water currents and salinity you wrote that because of evaporation there is less salinity. Actually, it's the opposite! When the water evaporates it leaves the salt in the water, making the quantity of salt in the water higher not lower. Nevertheless, I like that you included your initial thoughts and opinion about where the best places to fish are.

Laura, good point about the fishing agreements but you forgot one detail. Workers from the countries whose waters are being fished in must be hired to work on the foreign boats. This is important to remember.

Hello,

Most of the corrections Laura has made are right, but there are still some mistakes:

- Remember that teachers give sth for homework (exercises, to read some pages...). It´s better to say "she gave us to read pages... for homework" , instead of "she told us". "She said us" is incorrect. You can write "she said something to us"

- "Fish" is used both in singular and plural in English. You can´t say "fishes". It happens the same with "sheep".

- You have to write "better for", not "better to".

- The correct word to refer to the fish fished in the seas is "fish catches".

I also have some corrections about the content. The graphs showed that the fish catches have diminished in the last years, due to the main problems we studied, especially one of them.

You´ve also forgotten the concept of territorial waters (Exclusive Economic Zones).

And you´ve forgotten that Kelly was with us and she explained you many of these concepts and some other interesting things.

You have to write the journal the same day of the lesson. You have to write once or twice per trimester and I think this is something you can do without problems. You (and not only you, I´m afraid) have to be more responsible for your tasks.

Have a good night.
