21st/September/2011

Today in Social Sciences, at the beginning of the lesson, Paqui has told us to participate at least twice a month and she has given us the books of 3rd year of ESO, because we are going to continue with the last unit of the book, the first for this year:´´The 17th Century: Absolute Monarchy and Baroque`` It´s The GOLDEN CENTURY. We have copied the index of the unit which is divided into four points. 1st: Demography, society and economy. 2nd: Politics(The thirty Years´War,Absolute Monarchy and The English Revolutions).3rd: The decline of the Hispanic Empire. 4th: Art and culture in the 17th century(The Scientific Revolution and Rationalism and Baroque style). In the Baroque, many writers, painters appeared, such as:Góngora,Velázquez... Afterwards, we have read the introduction and Paqui has explained it. The main features of the 17th century are crisis and contrasts. In some parts of Europe(the Catholic countries), the nobles dominated the society, but in other parts of Europe(the Protestant countries) the bourgeoisie developed and they imposed their values and their way of life. The predominant political system was: Absolute Monarchy, but it was critizised in some places. Art and culture reflected these contrasts and changes, and as I have said before the new art style was Baroque. The Scientific Revolution took place with the evolution of the science and thinking. There were many scientific discoveries, for example Galileo Galilei discovered more planets, Kleper... The 17th Century is like the continuation of the 15th Century, because there are some common features. After the introduction we have continued with the second point, and we have read DEMOGRAPHY: very slow population growth because there were high mortality rates caused by epidemics, wars and strong famines, only in some places like England and the Low countries, the population grew, because agriculture improved. SOCIETY: it continued divided into estates: Privileged (nobles and clergy) and Underprivileged (bourgeois and peasants). The bourgeois were unhappy because they were richer and influential, but they didn´t have political power. The bell has rang, so Paqui has given our homework. We have learnt some new words such as: Golden Century(Siglo de Oro), Mess (lío), Famines (hambruna), Harvests (cosechas) and Starvation (muerte por hambre). We have to do two exercises for next day about the demography and the society of the 17th century.

See you :)

Always on my mind.

Hello my friends! Sorry about my delay, but I was on holydays. How is going your summer? I hope that all of you are good.

Well, like we know this year has been unforgettable. We started the year been classmates and we has finished it been really good friends, I think that we are like a family :).

For me, this year has been the best, I have improved a lot and I have worked really hard (like most of us) because the subjects were more difficult and we have been more time studying than in another years. In Social Sciences I have learnt many things, for me, the best unit was the unit about The Catholic Monarchs because I like history and we sang the fantastic songs! The best expierence has been  make the video of ´´Tanto-Monta``.

I think that sometimes we should be more formal people, because Paqui only has done good things for us and we don´t have recognized her work. She lives for us, for her work and we have to dedicate more time to the blog, because in this way we can learn many things, we don´t have to speak so much because we lose time of the lesson to learn.

Next year, maybe we are together in some subjects so we will be some hours all together! Thanks to Paqui and Kelly because they have taught us many things and they are really good persons.

I love my class!! Happy Summer :)

And now I´m going to write a sentence in Spanish that I always remember:

No LLoréis Porque Algo Terminó, Sonreid Porque Sucedió.

Wednesday,11th of May

Hello, everybody!!

Today in Social Sciences we have taken the exam of unit 5:Political Organization Of Societies.
The exam has been a little long, but it was easy. The exam has had nine exercises, but the people who passed the glog only have done five exercises. In the first one, there were definitions and we have had to explain what is Constitution, Republic, Social State, Subsidiarity Principle and Political Party. The second exercise has consisted in explained the conditions that the elections have to fulfill and the main problems of the Spanish electoral system. In the third exercise,we have chosen between two options: Explain the different types of Democracy or explain the Non-democratic States. I have chosen the last one. In exercise four we have explained the meaning of: Spain is a Parliamentary Monarchy and a Decentralized State under the rule of law. I have asked Paqui if we had to explain the different levels of organization and decision in Spain. She has told me that it wasn´t necessary. In the last exercise, we have had to explain all we know about an International Organization, I have explained The Organizacion Of Islamic Conference and I have written the year of foundation, the number of members, the purposes, a short history of the organization, the structure of the OIC , the main problems and the lastest news.
At the end of the lesson many people have finished the exam and have started to talk, but Paqui has given us homework for friday and they have started to do it. She has given us three maps: 2 about the Spanish Autonomous Communities and their provinces and one about the Catholic Monarchs´possesions at the beginning of the 16th century. We have to colour them. Paqui has said us that, if we prefer, the deadline to do the glog of the Inquisition (The Spanish Inquisition..... :)) is until the 15th of May. We have to find the information about the questions that Paqui has written here in the blog.
The bell has rang and we have given our exams. I have waited some minutes in the class to finish it. When I have finished Paqui has told me to write the journal.
See you tomorrow! And study Biology!!!! It´s the best unit jjeje

Today in Social Sciencies, Ana Margarita has came to the class. We have checked the exercisers about trade. The first exercise consisted in say what is the relationship between the number of workers in the tertiary sector and the development of a country. The relationship is: THE MORE DEVELOPED A COUNTRY IS, THE MORE WORKERS WILL WORK IN THE TERTIARY SECTOR. The second exercise was the definition of trade. Trade is the economic activity that consists of exchanging products for money or other products ( barter). In other exercise we have explained the difference between wholesale and retail trade. In WHOLESALE TRADE, big amounts of products are exchanged. Wholesalers buy big amounts of products to the producers and they sell them to other traders or enterprises. In RETAIL TRADE, products are sold in small quantity in shops, markets, supermarkets...We have explained also, the difference between exports and imports, EXPORTS are the sales of a country to other countries and IMPORTS are the purchases of products of other countries. In the last exercise we have explained the difference between Trade Balance and the Balance of Payments. Ana Margarita has asked us some questions about the things that we learnt last day, to do a rewiev. Afterwards, we have continued with the power point about the means of transports and we have seen the infrastructures of every mean of transport. Talking about the infrastructures of the planes,Paqui has told us, that the most serious accident of plane was caused by don´t clean the runway, so, when the plain took off, it crashed with a piece of another plain and it produced a big explosion. All the people died. Paqui has said us that, the big companies such as IBERIA are safer. Then we have read on the book the last part of transport and it was about the Transport Revolution in 19th century. Speed increased and the duration and cost os trips reduced. More people could travel and international relations and trade increased.

Every mean of transport needs different infrastructures and has adevantages and disadvantages. Paqui has said to us that we have to do a chart about the different uses, infrastructures, advantages and disadvantages of the ground and maritime transport for homework. We have started to do it in the class but the bell has rang. At the end os the lesson I have asked to Paqui some questions about the project of the Secondary or Tertiary sector.
Here I include a link about the plane accidents: http://www.planecrashinfo.com/

Today in Social Sciencies, we have finished Unit 2. At the beginning of the lesson we have checked two exercises: one consisted of explaining what unions are and how they work, and the other one consisted of explaining what a strike is. In the last exercise we had to added one more thing because we haven´t written the exact answer. Paqui has asked to someones the different ways of go on strike for example work-to-rule strike, slow down...

Finally we have read the last point: STOCK EXCHANGE. It´s a place where stocks are bought and sold. Stocks are shares of a company, which give the owners the right of receiving benefits if there are any and the people how have the stocks are called "stockholders". The people that buy and sell stocks in the STOCK MARKET, are called " brokers". The name "Bourse" comes from the city of Bruges in where an important family os traders lived, the Van der Burse. They used their house as a place for trade meetings. In Amsterdam there is one of the most important Stock Exchange. The Speculators are the people who play with the values of stocks and they can cause the fall of country, this is not fair and they would have to be jailed. For homework, we have to do the crossword of the unit to review. See you :)

Today in Social Sciences, the people who didn´t do the maps in the right way or the people who didn´t hand in the maps on time, have done an exam about the relief of the continents. While they were doing the exam, the other part of the class have done some exercises about economy. One has consisted in writing three examples of activities consisting in producing goods and three examples of rendering services. In´´Producing goods`` we have written: Stockbreeding, craftsmanships, agriculture, industry... They form part of the primary sector. In ´´Rendering services`` we have write: security, trade, education, transportation... in this group most of the jobs belong to the tertiary sector. After checked this exercise, Paqui has asked to some of us about the job of our parents, and most of our parents work in the tertiary sector. Then we have done five exercises more of the review and they have been very easy, because this unit is easy to understand. Finally Paqui has drawn on the blackboard some pictures that represented the capialists and the workers´s diferences.

We have to read the comic called ECONOMY ACCORDING TO CALVIN, and write the words related to ecnomy for homework.

This unit is interesting because this topic is very present in our lives.
