she has explained Abaut the monarchy( Victor emmanuel III) but goverments were unable to face problems.
Ten she has talked abaut Benito Musolini: Musolini was a former socialist, who had been expelled fromm the Social Party when he decided to support the participation of Italy in WW1.
He took advange of instability and general discontento, he create an extreme right group.
Paqui has told tu us that they copy alot from the Roman Empire for example.Wmple of facist- simbol of justice.
Then she has talked abaut the Blackshirts. They were a Fcist party created in 1921 and they ideolofies were confront a lot of things and they only suport:
-Petly bourgeoise and Big landowner and industrialist Tolerance by the Church in the King.

Tuesday, 26th May,2015

Hey there! I'm Stefania and this is my last journal of this year.
Today is Social Sciences class we have done many things:
First of all we have corrected three exercises that Paqui gave us the last Thursday. Maria has corrected the first exercise. In this exercise we have to explain the situation of the USA after WW1.

The situation of the USA after WW1 was the following one: the USA became the most important economic power in the world and the most important creditor of the Europeans countries. The American way of life became a model. The USA attracted thousand of immigrants and consumer society spread thanks to the installments and credits. There was a huge demand for all kind of products:
  • Farmers bought lands to increase production
  • Industries asked for credits to expand their business
  • A lot of houses and apartments were built and quickly sold
  • Many people invested in stock exchange markets due to the facilities the banks gave to get a credit.
As there was a huge demand, prices increased constantly, even if there was no correspondence between the price of the stocks and the way companies worked.

The second exercise has consisted of explaining the causes of the 1929 economic crisis in the USA.
The 1929 crisis started when the Europeans countries started recovering, there was a contraction of the demand for USA products and an overproduction crisis started:
  1. Products couldn't be sold
  2. Stocks started accumulating and as everyone wanted to sell their stocks, prices decressed and they lost a lot of money.
  3. Industries couldn't sell their products, so they had to dismiss workers (unemployment rate increased).
  4. Farmers couldn't give their loans back to the banks.
When we have been corrected the second exercise I've asked Paqui who had to do the journal today because I didn't know it, so she has said that it was my turn.

The last exercise consisted of explaining the event that is considered to be the outbreak of the 1929. Marta has corrected this exercise.
Outbreak of 1992's crisis: The public evidence of the crisis came on the 24th October 1929 (Black Friday), when the price of stocks in Wall Street (New York Stock Exchange Market) fell down.
Wall Street

The stockholders panicked and tried to sell their stocks massively. Prices shrunk, many investors got ruined and they couldn't give their loans back. Banks crashed down and economy collapsed. When the USA banks asked the European banks for the money they had lent them before, the crisis spread to Europe and the Great Depression become a world problem.

The picture that is above is representing two men searching for job. Paqui has said us that they had written like a curriculum, because in it that time was very difficult to find a job.
Then we have seen many images and there was one very interesting:
This is the famous Central Park in 1929. It was full of shanties because the people that couldn't pay the loans lost their houses and they started to live there.
Then we have spoken about how the banks work. Paqui has given an example to make me understand why banks collapsed in that period. She has told me that when a person deposits money in a bank, this money doesn't remain there untouchable, that money is given to another people. So this happened in 1929 in the USA the people who didn't invest money in stock they lost their money because the banks couldn't give them their money back.So there were a lot of people queuing to recover their money, like in the next picture.

Then we have seen a graphic about how unemployment rate grow in that period
Paqui has told us that nowatdays Spain has reached the top of unemployment rate.
Then in the last 5 minutes of the class Paqui has started to explain us why the crisis became more serious, but she hasn't finished it, because the bell has rung.
And as always we have copied some words on the glossary:
  • creditor:acreedor
  • interest rate: tasas de interés
  • to going into debts:endeudarse
  • to get ride of something:deshacerse de
  • to go bankrupt: quebrar/ir a la bancarota
  • vicious circle:círculo vicioso
  • shanty :chabola
  • shanty town:poblado chabolista
  • Chemistry:química
And that's all for today! Now I've to go to study Biology! See you on Thursday.

Thursday, 30th April, 2015

Hello everybody!!
Today in Social Sciences we have learnt a lot. Our today's lesson has been at the first period.
When I have arrived the class, Paqui and Alfredo were talking about a photography competition that Alfredo has won, so congratulations!!! Then, when all the people have arrived, the lesson has started.
First we have done a scheme of the Conference of Paris. We have written the participants (32 States), the features (the defeated countries were not allowed to attend. USA president Wilson's Fourteen Point Plan was the basic document to decide, but it wasn't implemented in the same way in Europe and in the Ottoman Empire. And the winners took revenge on the defeated countries) and the main decisions (that included the Treaty of Versailles, other treaties and the creation of the League of Nations).
While we were copying the scheme, Paqui has told us other treaties:
- Saint Germain: with Austria.
- Neuilly: with Bulgaria.
- Sèvres: with Turkey.
Then, Paqui has continued explaining the Treaty of Versailles. And Paqui has explained the losses of Germany. Here you can see the map in which are reflected the losses of Germany and also the free cities (Danzig and Memel).

The losses of Germany were a big cause of the World War 2.
Then the teacher has talked us about the Mandates of the League of Nations (1st map) and about Europe after the World War 1 (2nd map).

Paqui has explained us the disintegration of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (that gave birth to the creation of the States of Austria and Hungary) and the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk (that was respected by Poland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in order to avoid the extension of the Russian Revolution).
Then she has explained the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire:

At first, all these territories belonged to the Ottoman Empire, but later, Turkey was declared as a country and then it was declared as a republic, the Republic of Turkey. The rest of the territories were organized in this way:
- Lebanon and Syria: were mandates of France.
- Palestine, Transjordan and Iraq: were mandates of Great Britain.
The words we have copied today in our glossary are:
- Vanquished/loser: perdedor
- To attend: asistir
- To implement: llevar a cabo
- League of Nations: Sociedad de Naciones
- Unanimous decision: decisiones por unanimidad
- Blue Helmets: cascos azules (UN)
- To disband: desmantelar
- Latvia: Letonia

I hope you have a good long-weekend, enjoy it, bye!!

Thursday, 23th April 2015

Hello!
Today we've had a talk about the World War 1.
We have first gone to the assembly hall and given her our projects. I've liked this project even if it's a little bit long, I've enjoyed a lot doing it and I've learnt a lot. But then we've moved to the Social Sciences classroom. María and me have gone to look for Manuel but we haven't found him. Secondly, when we were in the Social Sciences Room, the talk has started. Paqui has spoken us about the World War 1, as I've said before,  not about the history or the battles but about novels and comics that reflex information that we didn't know about the World War 1. She has given us different letters from soldiers of the WW1 and we have commented on them . Mine talks about a British soldier who writes to his girlfriend or wife and he tells how bad the life is there. I think that with this letters, we can almost feel what they felt, it's very emotional.
Source: http://www.sinembargo.mx/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/private-harry-lewis-lincoln-26-1st-bedfordshire-regiment.jpg

Paqui has recommended us some novels, the main one was "The Fear", which I would like to read if I find the book somewhere.
And she has also shown us two comics about this War but I haven't had time enough to see them. I'd like to read also "¡Puta Guerra!".
She has told us some facts such as starting the WW1, people went there happy. I knew this because yesterday I've started watching a film Paqui has recommended us to see: Feliz Navidad. I haven't finished it yet because it was late and I fell asleep, but I'm going to finish it today. I've seen the children in schools learning to hate the others, how happythey were about the WW1 because they were bored, how the brother dies just at arriving at the war, how they become friends for just Christmas Night, I've learnt that the Scottish supported the British and the French and the Germans, the artist boy singing and declaring peace or something like this, the blonde girl singing... I'll continue watching the film soon.
I think WW1 is a very interesting event in history. In my opinion, it was amazing.
Finally, we've listened to a song sung in French that they composed in the WW1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iGEiY6wvDo
I've found this video which summarizes the WW1 in 6 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3UjJ5kxiLI

I let you an interactive game to improve your knowledge about the WW1. It's simple and interesting, you have to choose one period and place it in its chronological place: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/worldwarone/hq/worldwarwhen.shtml

If you fail it gives you three clues. When you complete it, you receive a certificate. I've got a DONKEY, what about you?

Thursday, 26th of March 2015

Hello classmates!!!

Today, in our lesson of Social Sciences, we've done many things:

-Firstly, Paqui has shown us the Art Project of the 18th and 19th Centuries that Dani Carmona, a partner from 1st of Bachillerato, made last year. On the project, he talked about Imperialism and Historicism. Also, Paqui has explained us how he made it: he made the project with a croma, a green background and then he put images of the paintings behind him. She has told us that doing it isn't difficult. I wanted to include the video but I can't find his channel on YouTube :(

-After this, Paqui has shown us different examples of Travel Journals, which is what we have to do for our projects of Art of the 18th & 19th Centuries. I think it's original and an interesting way of developing our creativity. There are some very original projects, and more or less I have an idea of how mine is going to be.

-Later we have talked about Goya: Paqui has explained us, with a presentation that he was a painter
between two periods: he was between Classicism and Modernity. He was born in Fuendetodos, Zaragoza in 1746. He moved to Madrid in 1775 and started working for the Royal Tapestry Factory. His style was luminous and colorist. In this same year, he became court painter. In 1792 he suffered a serious illness and became deaf. The deafness completely changed his personality: his painting turned more critical. He painted a series of Etchings that included Fantasies and Bullfighting. When Ferdinand VII came back, his ideas about Joseph I put him in trouble. He lost his job and became isolated. He painted the Black Paintings on the walls of his house. In 1823 he exiled to France and died there in 1828.

Here are some famous paintings by Goya:

Monday, 23rd February 2015

Hello everyone! I'm Stefania and today it's my second time to do the journal this year.
So..let's start!
Today we have had Social Sciences lesson at the 5th period. After arriving in the class we have prepared our things to start the lesson.
We have started correcting the main ideas of the Anarchism:

  • People are born free, but some institutions(schools, Churches...)snatch their freedom and limit their possibility of developing their capabilities.
  • The only way of recovering freedom is destroying everything that limits people's capabilities and led people to decide how to organize their lives.
  • Anarchists also defended collective property.
  • They trusted in the revolutionary capability of both peasants and industrial workers.
Then we have seen the two differents trends:
  • Propaganda by the deed:A minority of the anarchists wanted to solve the problems by violence eliminating representatives of capitalism and they prepared many terrorist attacks:Some examples were the terrorist attacks against the National Assembly, in France,Murder of Cánovas del Castillo(the President of the Spanish Goverment)...
  • Anarcho-Syndicalism:But the majority most of the anarchists preferred to create unions in order to be organized and educate for revolution.(They were pacifists).
Then Paqui has started explaining us the last point of the unit which is called The First and Second Internationale.
We have studied that the International Working Association (IWA) was a workers' organization created to Marx's initiative in London in 1864, in order to coordinate all the workers' attempts to improve their situation.
There were two Internationals:

  • First Internationale: It included representatives of all trends:Marxists, Anarchists, trade unions, Utopian socialists. It dissolved in 1876 due to the differences between anarchists and Marxists and after the failure of the Paris Commune(1871)

http://www.artofthestate.co.uk/Banksy/banksy-versus-bristol-museum-053-workers-of-the-world-unite.htm

  • Second Internationale: It was created in 1889 and was only formed by Marxists or Socialists. Some of the main symbols of the labour movement were adopted there:anthem, labour day and 8 hours campaign.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eight-hour_day#mediaviewer/File:8hoursday_banner_1856.jpg

But there were also disputies between Marxists:
-Some of them wanted to make revolutions to reach power
-Others wanted to participate in the elections(Social-Democrats)
And the Second International dissolved during the World War One (WW1).
Then in class there have started a conversation about Pablo Iglesias(I don't know why) and Paqui has showed us a photo about Pablo Iglesias, and she has said to us that before the Pablo Iglesia that we know now, there were other two Pablo Iglesias. (As I didn't know who that man is, I've asked Marta who is he and what he wanted to do.
Then Paqui and Carla have spoken about how revolutions can be, Paqui has said to Carla that there could be pacific revolutions.
Later Paqui has said to us that yesterday she saw an article about homework. Then we have spoken a little bit about this, Paqui has said to us that in Finland the childrens go to school for 4 hours per day and the have more break time (after every period they have 15 minutes of rest) and they don't recive any marks until they are 10.
And then we have started the next unit:
Unit 5:Europe in the 2nd halp of the 19th century
The first point of this unit would be included in the exam. This unit is very short:
  1. The Italian and German unification
  2. Imperialismo
And then we have decided on  the date of the exam. The exam would be next week on Thursday 5th of March.
As always we have written some words in the glossary:
  • good deeds:buenas obras
  • deed:hecho/acto
  • IWA:AIT(Asociación Internacional de Trabajadores)
And that's all for today. See you tomorrow classmates.
Bye!

Monday, 15th December 2014

Hello everybody!!

First of all, I want to apologise for not have written the journal yesterday. I completely forgot about it, because yesterday I had an exam in the corsevatory that lasted two hours, and I want the forgiveness from all of my classmates and from Paqui too. And after this apology, I'm going to write my third journal in the blog.

Yesterday, when we arrived to class, the first thing that we did was check and see our exams. I had a 8.75 in this exam. I liked my mark, it was better than in the first exam, but I know I can do more. And then, after revising our exams and talk a little about them, Paqui collected them back and gave to us our notebooks. I had a 7 in my notebook mark. That was so low for me and I decided that the next term I have to require more myself because I can do the things much better. After talking about our marks and our califications, we asked Paqui if she was going to say the final marks of the term, but she said that she would give them the next day, meaning today. Then, we saw a video of a very particular History teacher from the US called Tom Richey. This teacher makes videos explaining different periods of History, and he has made some videos explaining the French Revolution and all its phases. Although, he has made videos from other periods of history, for example on his YouTube Channel you can find a video about "The Thirty Years' War", other about "Mercantilism", another about Martin Luther King, etc. In the video that Paqui put in class he talked about the National Assembly, which was created in June 17th, 1789 after the Estates General. He explains so well and ofers learning in a different way as the one we are used to. When the video finished, we started correcting some exercises of the Moderate Stage of the French Revolution, the first of their stages, which was divided into the National Constituent Assembly and the National Legislative Assembly. But we didn't have time to correct all of them and we have finished correcting them today.

I attach this image for you because I like how it explains all the Stages of the French Revolution in spite of we haven't studied all of them yet.
Source: http://www.historyhome.co.uk/c-eight/france/frevphas.htm

I hope everyone is agree with their mark and have had a good term.
Bye, and merry christmas!!

journal,24th of November, 2014 Monday

Hi! I'm Javi, and that is my Social Sciences Journal.
Today, in Soci9al Science , at first, we checked the exercice that we have to do for this morning, some activities of the page eleven, that speak about the 13 colonies of North America and the reasons of the disagree of the colonist.
Too, we have spoken about the Boston Tea Party, that it was one of the first steps of the independence and the American Revolution.
Then, Paqui spoke about the development of the American Revolution and we have copy a lot of things about the declaration of independence and later, we spoken about the first USA president, George Washington.
Before finish the class, Paqui give us a little bit of homework to do tomorrow.

                                             BOSTON TEA PARTY
                                                               Boston Tea Party
The colonist was influenced by the ideas of the enlightement, and for that, they start a revolution in Boston.
The revolt started as a reaction of the constant tax increasing and because they weren't representation in the British Parlament.
The colonist dreesed like the native people, and abord a britanic ship in the East India to the Company of Boston arbour and throw all the charge away to the sea

THE BEGINING OF THE INDEPENDENCE AND THE START OF A COUNTRY

In 1775, the war between the colonist and the Brithis people start. The firsts battles took place in Lexingtong and Concord, and the colonist people was supported by the French and the Hispanic Monarchy.
The representative people met at the second intercontinental congress and took the goberment.
The 4th of July of 1776, was declare the declaration of independence, created by Thomas Jefferson
The leader of the colonist was George Washington, that before the war, was declare the first USA presindent.                                          http://history.howstuffworks.com/historical-events/revolutionary-war-pictures.htm
In 1787, was created the USA constitution, that say that the USA was a Federal State and a Presidential Republic. Too, the constitution add 7 articles that spoke about the organization of the New State based on the politic liberalism.
Then, in the constitiution, was added the bill of rights and 27 amenments

21th November 2014, (Friday)

Hello everybody, I'm Lucía.

Like all the times, I'm late. Sorry.
Today in the class of Social Science Paqui has been correct the presentation of our project about Baroque period. A mistake which we have commited the most part of the class is that we haven't put the tittle in the blog and Paqui have said us:
- Please, correct the titles of your posts because you write the date, but you have to written the title of the work and the author. This phrase it have been repeat like eleven times.

Paqui has been explain the control sesion of government on Wednesday in Spain:
The executive government control judicial court of justice (independent power), judicial court of justice control legislative Parliament and the other way around. All are control by all.

We have corrected the homework that Paqui has sent us yesterday, political and economic thinking:

POLITICAL THINKING:
- Rouseau: he defended the social contract, the agreement the people and the governors sing to preserve social order. He defended the general will.
- Voltaire: he defended that the power of the king had to be limited by the Parliament,a universal tax system and religious tolerance.
- Montesquieu: he defended the division of powers into three institutions and insisted on the necessity of an independent judicial power.

ECONOMIC THINKING:
Psiquitracts considered agriculture to be the most important economic activity of a country and they supported privated property, free trade, free industry and were against any interventions of the State in conomy (economy liberanism).
- Quenay: one of the main psiocrats
- Adam Smith: pioner of the (...)

Also we have copied some words in the part of glossary of our notebook. Not many comparing with the other days.

This is all the information that we have corrected today. Also we have learnt the Enlightenned depotism:
Monarchs: decide and reform that they want
Subjects (obey)
People: like childrens they can't decide because they are ignorant and don't know what is convenient for them. Now in Spain, we are subjects.

Then Paqui has sent the homework to the weekend: the sumary of Enlightened depotism.

See you on Tuesday, bye!

Thursday, 30th October 2014

Hello everybody!!

Today in our Social Sciences lesson, Paqui have revised our homework from last class, that was copy from a Power Point Presentation the main features from Baroque Art (where does it come from, differences with Renaissance Art, etc). After this, she has explained the new scheme we had to do in our notebooks taking the information from our books. It has to contents these things:

-Baroque Architecture: Main Features and Main Artists and works.
-Baroque Sculpture: Main Features and Main Artists and works.
-Baroque Painting: Main Features and Main Artists and works.

We have spent twenty minutes of the class doing our scheme with information from our books. We have completed our schemes with information such us:

-In Baroque, in Architecture and Sculpture, the movement is a very important characteristic.
-The most importants architectures were: Bernini and Borromimi.
-The most importants sculptures were: Bernini and Nicola Salvi (he made the "Fontana di Trevi").
-In painting, there is a predominance of color over drawing, just in opposite as it was in Renaissance Art.
-The most important painters were from Italy, Flanders, and from the Low Countries: Michelangelo from Italy, Peter Paul Rubers from Flanders, and Van Rijin and Johannes Vemeer from the Low Countries. They made a lot of paintings.

After finishing our scheme, Paqui did a little explanation about a new project we have to do: a project about Baroque Art. In opossite as the previous project of Renaissance Art, this project will be done individualy and the deadline is on 20th of November.
In this project we have to analyse one work from Baroque, it could be from Architecture, Sculpture or from Painting. Paqui has assigned me the sculpture "Blessed Ludovica Albertoni" from Bernini. I hope i will like to do this project and we will learn a lot about Baroque Art.

Thursday, september 25th

Hello classmates!!

Today in the class of Social Sciences we have continued working on our project of  Reinassence Art. Today, my classmate and I, Alfredo, have done the text about architecture, painting and sculpture to put in our brochure. All the people in the class were working.

Today Paqui has also explained the difference between other and another and the difference is:
-Another means in Spanish "otro" in singular.
-Other means in Spanish "otros" in plural.
And if you say "cualquier otro día" you have to say any other day.

After that, we have continued with our brochures because next day we have to give them to Paqui and she will ask us questions about our project, for example the main stages (Quattrocento and Cinquecento) or a part of the architecture.

Next we have continued writting and some minutes later  Paqui has stopped the class to tell us some interesting things about Reinaissance. For example, in one of the most famous painting of Michelangelo, the Sistine Chapel, naked and another painter, called il braghettone covered all the genitals and we have asked Paqui what is that, and she has told us that in Spanish the word il braghettone means "tapa vergüenzas" and we have laughed because for us, it has been funny. We have also added this word to our glossary.

Source: http://www.forocoches.com/foro/showthread.php?t=2231032&page=2

I think that this class has been interesting because with this work we are learning a lot of things about Renaissance. I agree with this work but maybe the next day when Paqui is asking us my opinion will change because we are a little scared. Good luck for everybody.

See you on Monday!

A new school year

Come Back To School With Rubber And Pencil Scraps

Hello, students!

This morning we´ve started the new school year. This is the fourth year of this blog and I hope that your work here will be as satisfying as it was last year. I've just sent you the invitations to join the blog. Accept
them and join the blog as soon as possible.

Here you have a video tutorial I prepared about how to write posts and make comments:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzfZuBactig&feature=plcp

As for the style of your posts, here you have some instructions:

- Don't change the font (size or style) and justify the text.

- Include a picture related to what we´ve done in class and don't forget to add its source.

- If you want, you can also create links to some key words.

Check the journals of the students of the past years to make an idea of what you have to do. And remember, the deadline to post your journal is 20:00. Comments can be made later or the following day.
This is a collective work, made up with the contributions of many people and it will only improve if you take this task seriously. Try to do your best, writing your journals in time and participate with your comments, suggestions and questions.

At the moment the blog has reached  331,848 visits. Many people from different parts of the world have visited the blog in the past 3 years. Show them how much your English has improved and write good quality posts.

See you in class!
