5th of October

Today in social sciences we haven´t got class because Paqui has been on strike as the 90% of the teachers of the High school. Jose Ángel the head of studies has told us to go because the high school doesn´t have enough teachers of Guardia.

The strike has been called because the cuts in education are very hard and education level  is lower.
The president of Castile La Mancha, Mª Dolores de Cospedal has opted for an austerity policy, cutting in the most needed sectors;

-Education
-Health Care

The cuts in education include the firing up of 800 teachers, work to hours more, they won´t pay holidays to substitute teachers and teachers, less money for the high School.
The community will earn more than 80 million of €uros
The increasing of this two teaching hours is bad for students because the library will be closed during this year, teachers will have less hours to attend students and this year go on a trip will be very difficult.
When arrived this morning there were some teachers were striking.
This morning we only have 2 lessons of the 6 we have:

-Religion
-Spanish language

In my opinion is good to be n strike to fight for our rights. I think the president of Castile La Mancha won´t stop with the cuts but this strike will make that cuts lighters. If the cuts continued education will be worse.

Tomorrow is the students strike, some students will go on strike all the day, like an excuse of not going to class. I will go on strike on 5th hour in maths, because the teacher is absent we will make a popular revolt, we will make banners with the sloggan :

Hello Ángel,

Thanks for your post. You´ve given detailed information about the impact of the cuts in our high school and about the effect of the strike as well. There is some specific vocabulary you should correct:

- José Ángel is the head of studies.

- the correct verb to say "concovar" is "to call": to call a strike, to call a meeting, to call the Parliament...

- "horas lectivas" are "teaching hours". Our teaching schedule has been increased in two more hours, but our weekly schedule are 37.5 hours(including teaching, tutorial, meetings with parents and other teachers´hours plus the time we spend at home preparing lessons, correcting and looking for additional information)

- "interinos" are "substitute teachers".

- "sanidad" is "healthcare", not sanity. "Sanity" means "cordura", something many politicians should have in a bigger dose if they really wanted to increase the quality of education and reduce the school failure. On second thought, you´re right: an austerity policy in sanity says a lot about the regional government (I´m kidding ;))

There are some mistakes about the data in Castile-La Mancha: the teachers who haven´t been hired are around 800 (3,000 in Madrid) and the Junta has "spared" around 80 million €.

I would like that the rest of the students leave their comments about the strike. Please, post your opinion. See you tomorrow.

Hello everybody!
In my opinion, ok, we have to fight for our rights, but I think that we can't do anything, because if there isn't money, there isn't... It started several months ago, and now they have done the strike and I think that it should be do before... This is my opinion...
See you tomorrow!

Hello Ángel! Very good journal1 I have seen a mistake in the parragraph of your "opinion", it's missing an "O".
And in my opinion, it's good to fight for our rights but the people who have to fight are our parents not us.
BYE BYE SEE YOU TOMORROW!

Hello Ana,

There is money. The problem is distribution. Cuts can be done in unnecesary or superfluous expenses, but not in basic items. Investing in education is assuring a better future for the population. For every 1 € the administration invests in education, they will recover 4 in the future. I think the profits are evident and this is the best invesment a society can do.Here you have the information. It comes from an OECD report:

http://www.aprendemas.com/Noticias/html/N9111_F14092011.html

Investing less or directly cutting expenses in education is reducing the future possibilities of many people. See you tomorrow.

Hello Mari Luz,

I agree with you: your parents have an important role in the defense of your interests, but I also think the students are thinking beings and they are perfectly able to be aware of what is beneficial or harmful for them.

See you tomorow.

Hello Paqui.
How has gone the day? I hope it has been calmly.
I think the most important decision is of our parents because they can say I don't want this I don't want that... but also from all of us because the country needs to have cuts because with many stupid policies which favoured the richer people or people that don't need it or people who don't deserve it.
I agree with the strike but I think this is not the best of do an strike, because it will pass unnoticed.
This is not from education but I think this is important and because of this we are in this situation:
One example is that the government has paid a big quantity of money to save a Galicia's bank. The first thing that they've done with this money is that four or five of the leaders, who were going to retired, have distributed this money between them. They have gain millions of euro s and their going to receive astronomical retirements pensions. This is a scandal. One of two:
Or the government is stupid or they're going to receive incomes of this fraud. But if these tricks happened inside of our country, How
aren't day trick us outside? our problem is that we don't how to choose our representatives and we let them to do whatever they want.

By see you tomorrow.

Hello Alejandro,

This has been a very long day. I´ve gone to the demostration in Ciudad Real and I´ve arrived home very late. Protesting is very tiring as well.

I agree with you in the idea of the squandering of public money. There are a lot of examples about this, such as the ones with the savings banks. But the most scandalous is that law allows these retirement pensions and these salaries. It´s immoral. And the same happens when the cuts extend to the helpless people (ill people, unemployed, students...). There should be more social responsibility and higher punishments for those who take advantage of their position to squander or steal the public resources.

Have a good night.
