Thursday, 07th of April

Hi guys. Today in Social Sciences we've had a very interesting lesson about the refugees and spontaneous debates of inmigration, homeless people, etc. It has been very intense. Most of the people who have participated in the debate of today's lesson were agreed with the though of hosting the refugees. Our arguments (I consider myself a person from the ones of this group) have explained in a very simple way our ideology of how we see things from a more empathic point of view than the rest. We've said that if we were in this situation, we wouldn't like to be threated as something that bothers, as non-humans. We want a better world with no borders. Nowadays I think that this is the only thing that matters; imaginary lines in a map created by the ones who are interested in money, wars to create money and people who only think to become even richer. We are all citizens of the world, and it doesn't mind if you're from Asia, Africa or Europe: we all are equal simply because we are humans. The situation of the refugees is very delicate, but sincerely: what's the problem with hosting people? Their home has been bombed, their life has been destroyed, and most of this has happend because of us. It's not that we've gone there with a plane and have thrown missiles or something like that, but that the ones some people defend, like the government and this kind of (I apologize for the word I am going to use, but I think it's the best one that fit in here) shit are the same ones that sell weapons or even want to make war with the people who are destroying Syria. They say that this is because of ISIS, but ISIS is not Syria. ISIS  is everywhere. ISIS could be your neighbour, a Spanish person you know from always. They want to blame Syria of everything, but has someone stopped for a moment to think that the French government want to do the same as ISIS want to do with us. Who's ISIS then? The only thing I know is that innocent people are paying a very high price just because some sluts want to play a game called war to get the highest amount of money.

In the other hand, there have been people who've said that there were priorities, like for example the Spanish people evicted. They've priorizited the natives before the refugees. Some of their arguments have been that if we were in this situation, no one would help us, or that we are in a bad situation too (I think this argument isn't good because I think nobody here has experienced the feeling of being bombed and attacked but anyway). I have to say to this people that they've done well to express their opinion even when the majority of the participants of the debate were in favour of hosting the refugees. I think this has been very brave. I also have to say to these people that they could be more empathic and put themselves in this situation. You want to be helped too guys, even if they help you or not, but you want to be helped, am I wrong? Mark the difference and help. We all together can build a better and new world, with an open mind and without thinking in nationalities, just in people from the world.
Fortunately or unfortunately we live in a democracy, and that means that EVERY opinion should be respected, even if it contradict yours, even if this opinion is the most fascist, racist, sexist or whatever of everyone. You can explain your point of view and try to make the close-minded understand that there are better options that the ones they have, but if they don't want to listen, don't impose your opinions. Just let them think what they want to think. You've tried, but if they continue with their close mind, then it's not your fault.
Respect everyone. I think you want to be respected too.

Hello Lorena,

I agree with most of you wrote, but I'm afraid most of the people don't want to host the refugees. The climate has been created and the terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels and some false informations about what happened in Cologne in Germany during the New Year's Eve have contributed to many people's change of mind. The wave of solidarity after Aylan Kurdi's death has ended and now the protests against the expulsions of refugees to Turkey are very small. Most of the people in class didn't speak because they know what is politically correct and incorrect. Only some expressed their opinion, "putting the Spaniards first", because this is the typical argument almost everybody would accept. National borders are deeply marked in people's minds, even before sympathy to other people's suffering.

As you said, terrorists can be anywhere and many of them come from rich countries. They radicalized in their countries of origin and later went to Syria to join those who claim to fight against the "unfaithful". Before the war in Syria, these radicalized people went to Iraq or Afghanistan. They can go to these places because they are chaotic states, where the governments don't control most of their territory and extreme radical groups have taken advantage of this situation and increased their influence over desperate people or people who don't see much future and are attracted by their propaganda. As you said, this won't end with more bombs. Every bombing creates angrier and angrier people. As I have said other times, the only way to stop terror is making its causes disappear, providing people with a decent life, giving them access to a better future...

Another conclusion from Thursday's lesson is how badly informed people are. Here you have two links of articles about the positive effects of the arrival of refugees or immigrants in Europe. These studies haven't been made by communists, but by the European Union and the IMF (International Monetary Fund):

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/jan/20/imf-refugee-influx-provide-eu-economic-boost

I know that some people won't change their mind, but our duty is continue to try to show that they are wrong and that all human beings deserve a good life, no matter their origin or circumstances.

Bye!

Hello again,

These are my corrections:

- Remember that "estar de acuerdo" is agree. I agree, thy agreed, we have agreed...

- People is plural: these people.

One last thing: the link of how the war started in Syria doesn't work. Can you include it again?

I can't. I've lost the video. Wars are horrible, and I can't understand why people continue with them. I've seen a lot of pictures of children crying in the streets, people died, etc. This is how we're gonna end: with our own weapons.
