Journal 11th January 2013

First in social science's class Paqui has said that Roxana’s journal it’s very long and this is good, then she has shown us her mistakes. Also she has said that the inspector came last year and was impressed of the work of the 4th ESO students.

After that, we have remembered the last day's lesson, Charles IV's reign, the war after his reign and the continental blockade.

Then Paqui has copied the Treaty of Fontainebleau on the blackboard: it was a Treaty signed by Napoleon with Godoy that allowed the French troops to cross Spain to invade Portugal because they didn’t respect the Continental Blockade ordered by him.

Then she has explained the Mutiny of Aranjuez and Laura Casero has read this from the book: Godoy feared that Napoleon wanted to occupy Spain when the French troops were in Spain and he moved the royal family to Aranjuez. Ferdinand used this to prepare a conspiracy against his father Charles IV. A mutiny started in Aranjuez, Godoy was fired and Charles IV abdicated on his son, who became Ferdinand VII.

After this we have talked about the actual king Juan Carlos and his lovers, for example the scandal of the photo of the king and his lover in Italy of him nacked and they paid a lot of money because they didn’t want the people see those photos, but in Italy all the people saw it, but now with all the Computer Science advantages they can’t hide all their private life and when his wife Sofia caught him in 1974 with another girl in his house when they were princess and prince. Paqui has criticized the royal family and all the inappropriate things they do. For example: the last problem elephant's on Botswana or the Urdangarín case.

After she has told us this, she has explained us what is the SICAV: it is an association of rich people. It must be formed by a minimum of 100 people and every member must have more than 100.000€. The privilege it provide to his members is that they only have to pay the 1% of taxes (Paqui, has said that she paid the 21%). The purpose of the SICAV according of the government is to reduce relocation.

We have added some new words to the glossary:
  • ·         To hide- Esconderse
  • ·         Yacht- Yate
  • ·         Naked- Desnudo

  1. Hello Gonzalo,

I have found some mistakes in your journal:
-social science class -> Social Sciences' class.
    -After -> After that.

After the king, Paqui has talked about the SICAV. She has said that the SICAV is an association of rich people. It must be formed by a minimum of 100 people and every member must have more than 100.000€. The privilege it provide to his members is that they only have to pay the 1% of taxes (Paqui, has said that she paid the 21%). The purpose of the SICAV according of the government is to reduce relocation. You can add something about it.

    See you!

  2. Hello ! I have found some mistakes in your journal:
    - Lesson in stead of class.
    - day lesson, Charles IV's reign...
    - Continental Blockade in capital letters.

I think that the photos taken in Italy were of Juan Carlos nacked and who bought the photos was the royal familY. I think you should specify this.
And you can include that in 1974, queen Sofía caught Juan Carlos with another woman in their own house. When that happened they were princess and prince.

  3. Hi Gonzalo !!

I haven't found any mistakes, your journal is good and the photos too.

You can add that Paqui said too, that when the inspector came last year, he was amazing because he didn't expect that 4º Eso's students made a lot of work in the blog and speak english too well.

Bye bye, see you on Monday !!

  5. Hello,

The corrections the students have made are OK. These are my corrections:

    - The inspector was impressed/shocked with the English level of the students, not with their work.
    - last day´s lesson, Charles I´s reign: you can´t use the article as in Spanish
    - Word order: ... has copied the Treaty of Fontainebleau on the blackboard
    - ... we have talked...
    - ... they didn´t want the people to see those photos. You´ve mixed differet things in that paragraph: the king´s "friend"and the pictures taken in Italy ara two different affairs.
    - "Informatics" doesn´t exist in English: Computer Science

    - ...elephant´s hunting in Botswana

One last think: I didn´t criticize the royal familiy. I only pointed that this type of problems has always existed with monarchies, because their marriages are of convenience. The problem is that they can´t hide them now and they have a privileged life paid by all the citizens. They should be more discreet, especially now, because the press has decided not to go on covering the scandals they are responsible for. I think most of the students were more critical than I was.

I talked about the SICAV because it was related to another scandal of the former queen of Belgium, Fabiola. She has created a foundation to avoid paying taxes. The SICAV are something similar in Spain: a type of society the rich people can create to pay less taxes.

I hope you correct all this as soon as possible. See you!
